Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
First, get yourself assessed, and understand where you need help- is it writing or talking, grammar or pronunciation...
then, choose your resources. You can join a good institute- Small Talk in Mylapore is very good. You can contact then at 044 24612353. They give you plenty of opportunity to talk in class, they dont teach only grammar b coz then it will be boring...only thru topics and conversations...you also get mock interviews and presentations.... Listen to English news everyday...Read one full story in a newspaper everyday... All the best. |

Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
Hi Nishant,
I understand your problem. The real problem is with our education system in school. English is taught as a subject, were we study the subject to score well. We hardly ever use the concepts to communicate. Once you come to college, especially in an engineering course, you lose touch with the language as you might not get the opportunity to speak English that frequently with the people around you. But most definitely, once you graduate, its only the English language and your hold over it that will land you a good job in a leading company. As you know very well, every employer today is looking at graduates who chave excellent communication skills. So the best thing to do would be to try and improve your conversation skills, as well as writing skills. If you want any contacts where you could join a languagr program do let me know. Regards Lalitha |

Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
English is an universal language. As an engineering student you must be good in English.Thing is that u must have a strong determination.Try to read news paper daily.Make it as part of your life, understand the grammars used in that for different situations, improve your vocabulary through that.Another method is to listen to prgramms in TV channels...like CNN IBN ,BBC etc...
Try to speak in english with your friends, families.Always try to think in english..Dont miss a chance to speak in english....dont feel shy/fear with a preconceived notion of making grammatical mistakes while speaking....it is step by step proccess...it cannot be achieved by an over night....NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A WILLING HEART... |

Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
Hi Friend.......
How to Improve Spoken English? The English language is spoken in many nations including India. Speaking the language fluently allows one to feel confident while communicating or interacting with different people. Not being fluent in English often leads to embarrassing situations for us; we feel unsure of ourselves and that only makes things worse. Here is what helped me overcome these situations and become confident in English: Ever wondered why you are so fluent with your mother tongue? It is because you speak and hear the language more often. What does this suggest? The first and the most crucial step to improve spoken English is to speak it as often as you can. Speak in English with friends, family, relatives etc. Do not worry about making mistakes. In fact, encourage people around you to correct you as often as they can. This will help you speak correct English and boost your confidence. Feeling under confident forces us to speak rapidly because we stumble with words or feel unsure about the pronunciation. Do not let this happen, it shows anxiety and the other person will struggle to understand what you are saying. Speak at a comfortable pace and pronounce your words correctly. There’s is no reason to feel shy or intimidated. We all make mistakes and the only way to learn is to practice and have others correct us. |

Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
hai,
English is a compulsory language to be taught. Every student have the basic knowledge of this language. Most of the graduates, can read and write the English language. However, their English speaking power is very poor and unimpressive. No matter what career you choose, whether it is Engineering or History, having a powerful command of the English language speaking will greatly increase your odds of success. However, if you want to surpass your colleagues, and make yourself more marketable, you will need to increase you English skills, and make them superior to the other people who work in your field. While you may not realize it, people will judge you by the way you speak. Most of us are familiar with how people feel about appearances, but the manner in which you speak is also important. Listening and comprehension is very important in any language learning. A lot of people wonder how they can improve their listening in English. The answer is simple (and yet difficult to do for those who don’t live in an English-speaking countries) – You should listen to English speech everyday as much as possible. Communication with native speakers will definetely help you. Surely they will not correct your mistakes as the majority of them are quite polite to do it. WebSites for Listening to English Radio in English English Podcasts Audiobooks in English Films in English Songs in English Coursebook Audios My suggestion: **Try to involve yourself in group discussions. **Please read english news paper **Watch English news channels. **Try to speak in English while talking to your friends. all the best........... |

Re: How to improve spoken English as an engineering student?
Hi ,
You can improve your stupendous communication skills by watching a lot of Hollywood movies, and English TV series. Initially start of with subtitles and later on try watching them without the subtitiles. After a few tries you will actually get a hold on how a 'speech delivery' works. Once you get a hold of it, try to join an IELTS or TOEFL coaching class. A dual advantage is what you get from this. Not only you can omprove your English vocabulary and speaking capability, but also you can write these exams and in future if you want to shift abroad, this would surely help. |
