can i join merchant navy after btech from cs branch if yes
then what is the procedure

yes you can go for merchant navy but being a engineer why you want to join merchant navy.......better option in same field is why dont you try for indian navy...........think on it..........and make decision.....

Always Indian NAVY is for technical people and give respectful post than Merchant navy.For merchant navy we need just 12th class and Indian NAVY need gaduation this make difference and also pay scale also high for Indian NAVY.


To become a merchant navy officer, one needs to be atleast 10+2 or a diploma holder...but you must have scored more than 60% in PCM in 12th board...............so if you want to go for MERCHANT navy you can.........

There will be 2 year course for Diploma Holders and successful completion you will be join merchant in either of departments

You can join merchant navy on the basis of class 12th. I do not think they enroll any engineer other then marine engineers.

There are seprate Marine engineering colleges, The student who get degree from these colleges join merchant navy.


To join Merchant Navy You have do Pre-Sea (Panama)
and Pre-Sea (Liberian) courses.

The qualification required for above mentioned courses is class 12th with
40 % aggregate.

To join merchant navy as an engineer, you either need to be a marine engineer or must be an engineer in civil/mechanical/electrical or information technology disciplines.
Apart from engineering department, the other major department of merchant navy is navigation department and to be part of it, you must have either studied nautical science or at least qualified +2 level; of examination with maths, physics and chemistry.

No you can not apply as it requires B.TECH in nautical science/marine engineering.

I am doing b.tech in civil engineering and age 20 , wht post would i get in merchant navy on graduation in civil and its scope!!???

after 12th only can join in merchant navy by writing entrance exam.
but now you have completed engineering.
you have not specified which branch you have taken in engineering.
marine engg students are eligible for merchant navy.
