CLAT is the Common Law Admission Test. The National Law University of India conducts this exam for bachelor's degree in law.

Eligibility criteria:

The minimum academic qualification required for this exam is 10+2 passed or appearing from a recognized board. If you have passed the exam, your percentage of mark for general and OBC category must not be less than 45% and for SC/ST candidates it is only 40%.

The upper age limit for general and OBC candidates is 20 years on 1st of July of year of examination. For SC/ST candidates it is 22 years.

12th appearing students can only apply for CLAT 2016 when they are expecting their result on time. If you are expecting your result next year in May then you can apply for CLAT 2016 exam.

There is an upper age limit of 20 years for UG programme. For SC/ST and Physically handicapped candidates age limit is 22 years.

CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test and as the name suggests it an entrance examination conducted by various NLU's following a rotation policy for admission in National Law Universities for law courses.

The qualifications required for appearing in the CLAT examination are as here under :-

* Nationality and Age Limit :-

You must have the nationality of India with your age not exceeding 20 years by the 1st July of that year in which you are appearing in the same examination. In case you belong to SC/ST or PH category then your age must not exceed 22 years.

* Educational Qualification :-

For undergraduate course i.e; Bachelor of Legislative law ( LLB ), you must have completed your higher secondary education or must be in the final year of same from a recognized institute with at least 45% aggregate in case of SC/ST or PH candidates it must be at least 40%.

For post graduate course i.e; Master of Legislative Law ( LLM ), you must have completed your bachelor of legislative law degree with at least 50% aggregate from a recognized institute.

Now, being a 16 years old Class 12th student you are eligible for CLAT 2016 only if you are going to appear on your 12th board examination in 2016 otherwise you will have to wait for CLAT 2017.

For further queries and information about the CLAT you can refer to its official link i.e; www.clat.ac.in.

No, you are not eligible for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2016 until and unless you have obtained higher secondary/ intermediate ( 10+2) or its equivalent certificate from recognized board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates).

So, you need to clear your 10+2 examination then only you can apply for CLAT exam.
