Re: Difference between Mechanical and Automobile Engineering?
Hi
Engineering is that branch of Science which deals with the study about the Technology in EVERY FIELD. Be it Electronics, Civil, Mechanical, Computers, Automobile, or Electrical etc.. Now as you have mentioned two streams which are there in your mind, I would like to elaborate a bit on both and then give my final word : MECHANICAL ENGINEERING :- This is one of the oldest branches in Engineering which is also considered as the Evergreen branches. There would be ever scope for this branch. It is a full time 4 years course. It deals with the study of machines, their parts, their functions, applications, developments, researches, etc.. AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING :- This is not as old as the Mechanical Engineering but old enough. It is usually not considered as the evergreen branches. Automobile as the name suggests studies about the various types of Automobiles and their developments. researches in their technologies. But the limits of this course is that it depends from country to country. Germany is ranked very high in the Automobile industry because of their excellence in this field. While at the same time, other countries do not have much scope in it. So finally I would recommend the Mechanical Engineering for anybody as it has got a huge scope, trusted and it can be banked upon. The final decision has to be yours. Hope this helps All the best Regards RANJEET |

Quote:
ENGINEERING is the branch of science dealing with the study of science and is the way to develop technology, with the help of engineering technology is increased and hence we get facilities. Engineering and technology combines to makes innovations. Mechanical engineering mechanical engineering is the branch of science considered to be evergreen ,it is the oldest branch of engineering. from medieval time to new and future generations it is considered to be evergreen mechanical engineering is the study of science and its application in machines to get new technology......... Automobile engineering it is derived branch of mechanical engineering.it strictly deals with the study of automobiles and machines related to automobiles.it creates new designs for automobiles...... so this was the difference between both of them . hence both are closely related to each other so, from the above two branches the scope of mechanical engineering is the biggest because it deals with innovating ,creating and applying the new ideas to make new technology hope this helped.............. with regards roknits |

Re: Difference between Mechanical and Automobile Engineering?
Mechanical engineering covers everything that automobile engineering has, plus a lot more. While auto engg focuses on the electro-mechanics of auto works, mechanical goes into greater depth about machine design, CAD tools, structural engineering, materials and physical research.
if u persue mechanical engg. then u can find a suitable job easily. i think u have to persue mechanical engg. thank u |

Re: Difference between Mechanical and Automobile Engineering?
I believe that you must have studied set theory in your junior classes and you must be accustomed with the words subset and superset.
Well if you are not then it will take a very little time for you to understand. Consider set A-{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} and set B-{2} If you will analyse set A and set B then you will notice that set B is a part of set A. in this case set A is the super set and set B is the subset. When it comes to engineering streams, mechanical engineering is the super set while automobile engineering is the subset. Which means that mechanical engineering is a more broader field with plenty of application in those fields where mechanical operations are carried out like, making of machines, robots, pumps, cars, bikes, spaceships and the list is endless. And automobile engineering is nothing but a specialized branch of mechanical engineering which deals only in the making of cars and automobiles. Mechanical engineering is a core engineering stream whereas automobile engineering is not. When it comes to india then you will find that there are hardly any good colleges or infrastructure for automobile engineering but there is a good opportunity for mechanical engineering. best of luck!!! |

Re: Difference between Mechanical and Automobile Engineering?
Hi dear.............
Mechanical Engineering Mechanical engineering is the second largest engineering discipline and one of the oldest. Mechanical engineers apply the principles of mechanics and energy to the design of machines and devices. Mechanical engineers are involved with the design of structures, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers design automobiles, trucks, airplanes, and trains for transportation; tractors for food production; interplanetary space vehicles; copying machines, fax machines, staplers, and mechanical pencils used in the office; and lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses used in the manufacture of goods. Mechanical engineers also design and operate power plants and are concerned with the economical combustion of fuels, the conversion of heat energy into mechanical energy, and the use of the mechanical energy to perform useful work. This is the largest and oldest branch of the engineering profession. It is concerned with the design, development, manufacture, operation and maintenance of many types of plants, machinery and mechanical products. New areas include Robotic inspection systems, Cyrogenic technology for material treatment, Laser material processing etc. Course : In addition to the basic engineering sciences, the programme in mechanical engineering lays emphasis on the analysis and synthesis involved in the design, manufacture and operation of prime movers, pumps, compressors, machine tools, mass production technique etc. Design, operation & maintenance of machine & their components, mechanisms, machine tools, manufacturing systems & processes, components of terminal power system including internal combustion engine & turbo-machinery, solar energy, heat transfer, air-conditioning, refrigeration & industrial engineering including production, planning & control-both the fundamental & & applied aspects leading to these areas. Scope exists in almost every industry including power plants of all types. Educational Attainment: Bachelor degree, Post graduation, Ph.D Specialization: In addition to the basic engineering sciences, the programme in mechanical engineering lays emphasis on the analysis and synthesis involved in the design, manufacture and operation of prime movers, pumps, compressors, machine tools, mass production technique etc. Automobile Engineeirng One must have a BE or B.Tech in automobile engineering to become a automobile engineer. Also, degree holders in electrical or mechanical branch can opt for specialization in automobile engineering at the postgraduate level. Diploma holders can qualify for the AMIE exam to be at par with degree holders. Eligibility, Entrance Exams and Courses: In order to pursue a B.E. or B.Tech Course in Automobile Engineering, one needs to qualify the higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with a good aggregate percentage. IIT-JEE is one of the important entrance examinations for engineering courses. A candidate must fulfill each of the following conditions: Can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years. Should have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2008 or should be appearing in 2009, and secure at least 60% (55% for SC/ST & Physically disabled ) Minimum age limit of 25 yrs as on 1st October (30 yrs for SC/ST and PD candidates). Each State has its own particular eligibility criteria and entrance exams. Some famous Engineering Institutions such as BHU Institute of Tech Varanasi, Andhra University College of Engineering Visakhapatnam and Anna University Chennai etc have their own entrance exams like EAMCET for A.P, KCET for Karnataka and TCET for Tamil Nadu which are usually conducted in the month of May-June. Candidates should ascertain precise details directly from these Institutions. Career Opportunities and Job Prospects: Lucrative careers can be found in vehicle manufacturing and assembling plants in both private and public sectors, in maintenance and service stations, private transport companies and defence sector. Auto engineers are employed by state transport undertakings and insurance companies. Self-employment is also possible in setting up automobile garages or maintenance workshops. Salaries Remuneration depends on the reputation and standing of the company. Old companies like Premier Automobiles Ltd, Ambassador and Maruti Udyog offer conservative salaries of Rs 20,000/- pm to freshers. Premium car manufacturers like Skoda, Audi, Ford, Toyota etc pay anything upto Rs 30,000/- pm as starting scale. Subsequently, when they become shop-floor managers and quality control managers, they are paid very high salaries. Share Good luck........... |
