3. The Interview

The interview calls are sent in March-April of the following year and they take place in the month of April-May. In order to become an IAS officer you need to appear for an entrance exam. The exam is conducted by UPSC. As part of the exam you will be required to go through three phases. First you need to appear for the prelims. Forthat you need to be thorough in general knowledge area and the optional subjects which you need to select from the list provided. Once you clear this you need to appear for the main exam. This main exam will have 9 subjects. Once you clear this you will need to attend an interview. The Prelims exam which will test your general knowledge,current affairs and aptitude skills shall be conducted on 20th May,2012..

The MAINS exam will be held 5th October,2012..

If you clear both the rounds then you shall be called for the final interview..
