To be an IPS Officer you need to go through the CSAT examination conducted by the UPSC once in a year.

How to apply

You can apply for the examination either online or offline.You can apply for the examination online when the notifications are released in the following site
http://www.upsconline.nic.in
Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.The link will be active when you need to send applications for a particular examination after the prescribed time the link will be disabled.

Offline applying
For applying offline the applications are available in the head/central post offices of your city throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 30/- .Each such Form can
be used only once and only for one examination.

Books to be preffered
For the preliminary examination you can prefer the following books:

Our Constitution by Subhash Kashyap
Manorama Year Book for GK
Indian Economics by Datt and Sundharam
India’s Struggle for Independence by Bipin Chandra
Magazine-Frontline
Wren and Martin for English
Basic Numeracy for R S Agarwal

Its better that you prefer a group a books rather than depending on a single books but you can even prefer books like Unique Publication and Arihant Publication.

To apply for Indian Police Service, you will have write and qualify the civil service examination conducted by union public service commission.
To be eligible, you must hold a bachelors degree in any discipline and must be within the age limit of 21-30 years.
The civil service examination will comprise of two written examinations:
Civil service aptitude test
Main exam

To crack the exams, you must refer to the IGNOU study material for any particular subjects. Apart from this, you must have fair amount of knowledge of current affairs, Indian history, world history, general science etc.
You must have good command over English grammer and comprehension.

I am sorry to say that,after 12th you are not eligible for the IPS exam.To join you should have minimum a graduation degree.

Eligibility Criteria:-

Educational Qualifications :

Graduates in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates having professional and technical qualifications recognized by the government are also eligible.

For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India

For other services, a candidate must be either :
(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India. or

Age Limits :

(a) Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August of the year in which examination is being held.

(b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable:

(i) upto a maximum of five years for a SC/ST candidate.

(ii) upto a maximum of three years for OBC

(iii) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during a particular period
Personal Attributes :

The aspiring candidates are expected to have keen interest in the General Studies and are supposed to have a good amount of interest in current affairs. Regular and detailed reading of a good national newspaper, a standard competition magazine and a basic book on general knowledge is the essential pre-requisite. Another important point is efficient time planning.

Physical Standards :


Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination.

1:Height-

Minimum height for the Male 165 cm &
for ST 160 cm,for the SC/ OBC,is not

Minimum height for the Female 150 cm &
for ST 145 cm,for the SC/ OBC,is not

2:Chest-

for male minimum 84 cm. expansion 5 cm.
for female minimum 79 cm. expansion 5 cm.

3:Eye Sight-

6/6 or 6/9 distant vision.
J1 for near vision

Number of Attempts:

Every candidate appearing at the Civil Services Examination shall be permitted four attempts at the examination.

this restriction will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST), Other Backward Classes(OBC)

Physically Handicapped(PH) candidates who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.

if you are intrested in IPS(indian police service) you should have a minimum degree qualification from a certified university....and an age limit from 21-26 years
GROUP-1 exams are conducted by the government through which you will be allowed for further training you have to pass the written test to qualify for the IPS.

IPS Exam Eligibility

IPS stands for Indian Police Service and for joining in this great organization, the candidates have to succeed in the civil service examination conducted by the union public service commission. The eligibility criteria for IPS civil service examination are given below:

Age requirement:

During the year of applying for the examination the candidate must have attained 21 years of age on 1st of August. So, minimum age limit is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 30 in the case of candidates coming under general category and 33 for OBC candidates and 35 for candidates coming under SC/ST category. In the case of ex-servicemen an age relaxation of 5 more years is given.

Educational qualification:

The candidate must be a degree holder of any discipline from a recognized university. The candidates who are in the final year of their degree course can also apply for the examination.

Physical qualification for IPS:

Height: The male candidate should be 165cm and female candidate should be 150cm for general category candidates.
In the case of candidates coming under SC/ST/OBC the height required is 160cm for male and 145cm for female.

Chest: Minimum requirement in the case of male candidates is 84cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.
In the case of female candidates the minimum requirement is 79cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.

Eye sight: 6/12 or 6/9 distant vision for worse eye and 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. Near vision for worse eye is J2 and for good eye is J1.
