Eligibility Requirements to enrol as ‘IPS Officer’
Candidates interested to get in to Indian Police Service (IPS) must qualify Civil Services examination. Indian nationals with adequate educational qualifications and physical fitness are only considered for IPS Officer Position. Graduates who belong to a specific age group prescribed by UPSC can attend CSAT preliminary/mains exam. Those who get qualified in both preliminary and mains exam will be considered for personality test. Physical fitness of the candidate is evaluated in personality test only.
Nationality Requirements to enroll as ‘IPS Officer’
- Only Indian citizens are eligible to get in to the role of ‘IPS Officer’.
Educational Qualifications to enroll as ‘IPS Officer’
Bachelor degree obtained in any subject is the educational qualification required. The degree must be obtained from a recognized Indian University or deemed University.
Age Requirements to enroll as ‘IPS Officer’
Candidates who have attained the age of 21 years are eligible. Upper age limit for the post is 30 years. Relaxation in age can be expected by those belonging to reserved category. 3 year age relaxation is offered for OBC candidates where as a maximum of 5 years is allotted for SC/ST candidates.
Physical Requirements to enroll as ‘IPS Officer’
Apart from educational and age requirements, candidate must satisfy certain physical requirements to be eligible for IPS. These factors are evaluated only at the time of personality test. Those who have cleared CSAT mains exam will be short listed for personality test.
Minimum height required for men is 165 cm. Women candidates must have minimum of 150 cm height. Men and Women candidates belonging to ST category must have minimum height of 160 cm and 145 cm respectively. This privilege is also applicable for candidates belonging to races of Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Assamese, etc.
Minimum chest girth specified for men is 84 cm and that for women is 79cm. Myopia should not exceed minus 4.00 D. In case of Hypermetropia, it should not exceed plus 4.00 D. Existence of squint is a disqualification.
Visual requirements for the candidate is as follows
- Better eye (corrected vision)
- Distant vision – 6/6 or 6/9
- Near vision — J1
- Corrections permitted — spectacles
- Worse eye
- Distant vision – 6/12 or 6/9
- Near vision – J2
Candidates possessing these eligibility requirements are eligible for IPS training by qualifying CSAT preliminary and mains examination. Only four attempts are allowed for a candidate, provided they satisfy the age limits. Candidates belonging to OBC category can have a maximum of 7 attempts. No such restriction is applicable in case of SC/ST candidates.
