JAIPUR: The fate of Rajasthan University's Law College (morning and evening) is still in a limbo. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has outrightly rejected their repeated pleas to run the academic session 2013. Law aspirants are now turning to private universities and colleges due to the uncertainty over the start of academic session.

The BCI's move came after they found in the inspection that there were only five full-time faculty against 1,200 students. As per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, the teacher-student ratio should be1:20. RU has given them the assurance that recruitment process has started and soon they will have the adequate number of faculty.

The BCI lost interest in the plea after the newly appointed vice-chancellor, Dev Swarup, indicated that the university is not prepared for holding interviews which were scheduled in the middle of August. "The situation is clear that the new recruitments are likely to take more months to join. It is therefore not in the favour of the students to take admission in a college which has literally no faculty," said BCI source.

The academic sessions in private universities and colleges have started and students who were aspiring to study here are seeking admission in other institutes. The confrontation between the college and BCI is affecting the students from economically poor background who wish to seek admission here. "I am taking admission in a private university in Jagatpura. Here the fees is Rs 80,000 for a year against a few hundred rupees the in university law colleges," said Suresh Meena, a student from Bharatpur.

Furious over the strict attitude of the BCI, the former principal and visiting faculty of Law College, RD Rawat said, "They are ready to grant us 300 seats but we are want a minimum of 720 seats. We have asked the BCI to give us a year's time to do away with the shortcomings, but in vain." He said that if the BCI does not concede to their demands, they will challenge this in the court.
