The VIT chennai campus is a newly established structure.
Thus, there is no comparison between VIT vellore and VIT chennai as VIT vellore has been there for decades and is regarded as one of the best private universities in the country and specially known for its placement.

Though VIT chennai will bank upon the brand name of VIT, it is a much safer option to choose VIT vellore as it is better established and known both locally and internationally.

The streams you can expect in the counselling session are as follows :

Branches you can get in Vellore Campus:

(Bioinformatics)
(Bio-Medical Engineering)
(Biotechnology)
(Mechanical (Spec. in Energy Engineering))
(Mechanical (Spec. in Chemical Process Engg.))


Branches you can get in Chennai Campus:

Civil Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Electrical and Electronics Engineering

A university is judged on the basis of

1. Students
2. Faculty
3. Industry linkages
4. Placements
5. Infrastructure
6. non-academic/co-curricular facilities

On the basis of all the criterias mentioned above, it can be easily said that VIT Chennai is NOT a good institute. The main reason for which is that the university is new and is yet to establish itself properly.

The student quality in VIT Chennai is not as good as most aspirants are apprehensive on joining a new university, irrespective that it is a branch of a well known college VIT. the cut off for admission in VIT is also pretty low as compared to Vellore

coming to the faculty, the students themselves are not giving good feedback about the teachers and their quality. The placements are not as good because of the average quality of students.

The infrastructure is good and pleasing but that is that matters least in the priority list. That is just a way to lure students to join their college.

On the other hand, SRM is a well established university, was rated the best private university in 2011 so its always a safer bet. It is known for its placemtnts and quality of students are good as well.

noone here have complete information about vit-chennai,vit chennai would have common placement with vellore,its not a seperate institue, also faculty are of same standard in both campus.the degree you will get would be same as of vellore campus student.

I am currently a student on VIT-Chennai. The college is two years old, and hence the questions of placement does not arrive as it is yet to begin for the first batch. Also, studdents here are quite better as compared to Vellore, as there are a certain % of managent quota (full fee quota) who come without any ranks. In that terms, VIT chennai accepts students only on basis of ranks and nothing else.

It has a good study atmosphere will all facilities.

And for all those who think its not recognised, VIT Chennai students are getting degree of Vellore itself. So there is absolutely no problem in that.

I hope I have clarified most of the doubts.

VIT Chennai students intake is only on merit basis and NO management or NRI quota allocated. The selection is only on the basis of all India entrance rankings. The entire teaching methodology and grooming of students are very similar in both campuses. The counselling procedure itself imply that that the campuses are just one and the same and degree is awarded as VIT University degree. The students quality is very good on overall basis in Chennai campus too and the syllabus and innovative teaching methods and systems set challenges almost any Institute/College in the country with international standards and infra structure.

These all very evidently prove that there would not be any difference in campus placement too though the first batch students are yet to come out of this University, Chennai campus.

The only difference is VIT Chennai has only core engineering branches but VIT Vellore has many varieties of specialisation.

Since the counselling is done simultaneously for both campuses together for Vellore & Chennai, the students have the option of choosing on their own choice. Many higher ranked students have opted Chennai as their first priority due to its proximity to Metro city.

VIT University admission criteria:

Admission to VIT University is carried out on the basis of VITEEE(VIT-Engineering Entrance Examination). 2013 onwards this entrance test will be a computer based test(CBT).

Minimum eligibility of marks to be secured for admission?
Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in 2013 must have secured an aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).

Comparison between VIT Vellore and VIT Chennai:

VIT Vellore is hands down the better college amongst these 2 as it has been there for a longer period of time and it has international recognition as compared to the Chennai campus which is yet to establish itself. The Chennai campus is only a few years old and would take time to reach the level of VIT Vellore.

However, VIT Vellore and Chennai students are offered the same certificate of graduation so eventually it doesnt make much difference. The only difference could be in the faculty, environment, facilities, etc.
Also there are no admissions through management quota in VIT Chennai so the quality of education is expected to be better than that of VIT Vellore in the coming years.

As far as academics vit chennai is equally good as vellore(and better than SRM-where most of the students are through management quota) but thing is vit chennai is a bit more stricter in discipline as compared to vellore campus(for example boys and girls cant walk around as freely as in vellore in chennai campus!!!).So if you are someone who joins vit only for academics VIT chennai campus is a EQUALLY good option.Also vit chennai is a safer campus(you know wat i mean) compared to vellore,especially for girls.

VIT Chennai campus will be a good option for those who are not getting desired branches in VIT,vellore.
I have heard from the people that the Chennai campus will be equally good in ECE and mechanical.So if you are not getting these branches at vellore then you should try chennai campus.With a rank of 7000-9000 and even upto 10,000 you will be able to get these top branches at VIT chennai.At VIT ECE(Electronics and related branches) and machenical are better that computer science and they are in more demand at vit.

VIT campus is a good option for everyone.You may see the picture of the campus at the official website.Chennai is capital of tamilnadu and is industrially more developed that vellore.Chennai attracts more number of company.In a few year both branches may acquire equal status.

I think for M.Tech IT it will be a tougher one. You may get M.Tech CSE in Chennai Campus. They are going to introduce some other courses too. You just see which one suits you. Vellore is tough to get for this rank.
