Is knowing and writing Tamil a mandatory option in TNPSC exam?

Sir/Mam, I am BE student studying in Karnataka, but I'm from a Tamil origin. I know to speak Tamil. Is this enough for me to write TNPSC exam or should I even be well versed in reading and writing the language?

No, Tamil is not mandatory to apply, but if you don't know Tamil or haven't studies tamil as a subject in your school then you have to clear tamil language test.
The test will be conducted for candidates who have cleared the exam without knowing tamil , and are asked to clear language test from 2 years of date of joining.
In group 4 exam , it's purely candidates choice to select the subject to be whether general english or general tamil.
You will find questions regarding literature and history of Tamil Nadu, thus you must keep in mind that you have to deal with such type of questions and to some extent you must know the language.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
