I completed my 3yr Polytechnic course in mechanical engineering from a government college after 10th. please tell me.. how to join merchant Navy & is there any course to join merchant Navy after polytechnic course OR B.tech is mandatory? Please reply..

Latest eligibility criteria to join Merchant Navy?

The candidate should take Science (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics) with at least 60 % in your class 12th. You should also have 50% marks in English. You should be unmarried at the time of joining. If you are pursuing B.sc (Maritime Science, etc.)

Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female). Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.

Merchant Navy Eligibility Criteria:-

For bachelor Merchant Navy courses, candidates must have completed Class 12 with Science stream and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

The minimum marks requirement is 60 per cent.

The minimum age requirement for this is between 17 to 25 years.

Polytechnic students cannot directly join Merchant Navy, but diploma holders can join Merchant Navy.

In case, student had completed Diploma in Marine engineering from a recognized institute with 2 years of pre-sea training, then the candidate can join Merchant Navy as trainee engineer.

So, as you have done polytechnic. So, to join Merchant Navy, you can do Diploma in Marine engineering. Alternative way would be B.Tech in Marine engineering, but for that you must have to score very good marks in JEE Main.

To be eligible for Merchant Navy, you must be:

• Mentally and physically fit
• Eyesight must be perfect
• Good communication skills
• Age should be within 28 years
