Introduction:

Genetic Engineering (GE) is a highly complicated and advanced branch of science which involves a wide range of techniques used in changing the genetic material in the DNA code in a living organism. 'Genetic Engineering' means the deliberate modification of the characters of an organism by the manipulation of its genetic material.

Eligibility & Course Areas:

Educational : A qualified genetic engineer, must have a graduate / postgraduate degree in genetics or related fields such as biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry or a phd from a recognised university, based on 2-3 years of his own research under the guidance of a professor/lecturer.

Job Prospects:

There is an increasing demand for genetic engineers in India as well as abroad. Genetic engineers are mainly absorbed in medical and pharmaceutical industries, the agricultural sector, and the research and development departments of the government and private sectors.

Remuneration:

Genetic Engineers with a postgraduate degree can earn between 5000 Rs to 8000Rs / month whereas those with doctoral degrees can earn up to 10,000Rs/ month as a starting salary.

I m doing m.sc from zoology but i m not intrested in it. I want to do m.sc biotech. Pls give me some informations about this and also tell me some college/univesity name.

Genetic Engineering is concerned with deliberate manipulation of the genetic material (DNA) of a living organism by artificial methods.
The study of genetic engineering involves insertion of new genetic material at an unspecified location in the host genome by isolating and copying the genetic material of interest using molecular cloning methods to generate a DNA sequence containing the required genetic elements for expression, and then inserting this construct into the host organism.


Basic Eligibility

UG:

To pursue undergraduate course in genetic engineering, candidates should be 10+2 pass in science stream from recognized board examination. Most colleges offer admission on the basis of marks obtained in Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and All India Engineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

PG:

To pursue postgraduate course in genetic engineering, candidates should be B.E / B.Tech in genetic engineering from recognized University. Candidates should have valid GATE score.
