Yes it is a must for you if you want to take up NET exam you should have atleast 55% in Master degree if you belong to the General/Other Backward Classes (OBC). 50% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master's degree is required for Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and Physically Handicapped (PH)/ Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates are eligible to appear in the NET examination.

Those candidates who have even secured 54.99% marks or below (even 49.99% marks or below for SC/ST & PH/VH candidates) in Master's Degree or equivalent Examination are NOT eligible for this Test. THERE IS NO PROVISION OF ROUNDING OFF OF MARKS TO MAKE IT 55% (50% FOR SC/ST and PH/VH).

Hi sagar,

yes, it is must to get minimum 55% in post graduation in order to get lecturership and to appear in NET exam.As you are doing M.A. , it is must for you to get min. 55% in M.A. in order to appear for NET.

There is no age restriction for this exam , but FOR JRF post, maximum allowable age is 28. Relaxation is given to SC/ST/OBC candidate.

This exam is conducted every year two times in the month of JULY and DECEMBER.

so,don't worry, if you have secured 55% then you will not face any problem, and if you work hard, you will get through.

The candidate must possess certain eligibility requirements to get qualified for NET exam. Post graduation from a recognized university is the basic qualification required. The candidate should possess minimum 55% marks (mandatory) in the qualifying examination. The candidate can appear for the exam in the respective area of specialization. The exam is carried out by UGC. The same is carried out two times a year.
