Re: Steps to be followed to design a product?
Hello,
This is a very interesting question that I am facing. Let me tell this to you in a step wise format. 1)Firstly before designing the product, you have make some ground work. 2)Now ground work means that you have to know for whom the product is being made(I mean the target audience), what is the problem or issue with respect to which this product will be launched, what should the product do to solve those problems. 3)Along with these list make a list of the probable shortcomings. It may happen that the raw materials for the products are very rare and it has to be brought from foreign countries. So you have to make a list of such points and also the cost increase due to such things. 4)Then you start with the experimental designs as what all raw materials will be used, what chemicals to be used and how to be used to design the product. Work on it and make it perfect. 5)Lastly, plan the promotional campaign for the product. Good Luck. |

Steps of the Design Process in the Developing of a Food Product-
Brief and Market Research Writing a brief addressing a problem that will be solved by a new food product is the first step in the development of a new food product. An example would be designing a low-carb, low-fat frozen pizza that tastes good for health-conscious consumers. Once a solution to a potential food problem is presented, market research must be conducted on the potential product to find out who might buy it and what they'd be willing to pay. Telephone interviews, focus groups, and analyses of spending habits and market trends are all a part of market research. Design Specifications Once market research indicates a potential audience and favorable reaction to a new food product, design begins. Variables including shape, size, color, ingredients, consistency and packaging are considered. A mock-up or preliminary design is created, evaluated and refined into a final prototype with packaging. Financial analysis is then run to determine the cost of manufacture, assembly and distribution. Testing The prototype is tested on focus groups of consumers and small adjustments are made as needed to make the product as favorable as possible while still fitting within budget and timeline parameters. Test subjects rate the product's flavor, texture and appearance and their responses are plotted along a graph to quickly show consumer reaction. Manufacturing and Quality Control A manufacturing brief is given to a potential manufacturer that lists all of the materials and directions the manufacturer needs to mass produce the prototype. Quality control checks are put in place throughout the manufacturing process to ensure the final product is of a high quality. Weight checks, visual inspections, temperature checks, chemical checks, and or taste, touch and smell checks are commonly performed before the product is available for purchase by consumers. |
