You have not mentioned in which discipline you wish to pursue Mtech. Some institutes are best in particular discipline while others are best in some other discipline.

Generally IITs are considered to be the best engineering colleges in India.
After IIT, NITs are the best.
Some other good institutes are VIT, BITS, pilani & BIT, Mesra

But, according to me IIT and NIT are the best colleges for M.tech and Any courses.

Because, IIT and NIT are the colleges, who provide you a good knowledge, as well as provide you a best jobs with high salary pacakage.

NITs comes after IITs and then V.I.T and any other. but fee is very high in V.I.T. for taking admission into IITs you need more than 90% in gate. labour hard and prepare for the exam.good luck.

Well you have listed all the best colleges in India for M.Tech. The one which always remains in top is IIT's and NIT's. Next comes the BITS, VIT,BIT. and after these comes the other colleges that you listed.

For all these you have their respective entrance exams. Only thing is that the pattern of each exam differs.

Well according to me you can try for BITS and VIT entrance exams which is easier than GATE.

To the best of my knowledge these colleges will need a Gate Score. All the IIT colleges definitely needs a GATE score. BITS might not have. They also have a campus in Goa and Hyderabad. They have MSc masters courses. I would suggest you go to their official website and write to their admissions department.

Out of the list you have provided all the IITs are the best in the field of engineering. Next on the list will be the NIT’s. There are other government and private colleges also in this top list. Some of them are VIT, BITS pilani, COEP, VJTI, DIAT and MIT. As to get in to these colleges you need to have excellent GATE score. You need to pass IIT JEE to get in to the IIT's

gate score is valid for 2 years. but if after attempting gate exam in 2011, i score enough to qualify and still i feel that i should try once again to score good....
then am i allowed to appear gate exam in 2012 again????
and how many times can a person appear 4 gate exam????

Also, it may happen that some other colleges like VIT, Manipal , SRM , LPU, etc provide direct admission but it would cost too much, as they impose capitation.

so generally the iits and then the nits are the best of the choices .....
