I want to know if eligibility of IPS exam contains, 5 years mandetory prior police service experience required?

A graduate degree is the eligibility criterion for IPS post. Taking the UPSC Civil services exam is the first step for joining this post. Candidates should be at least 21 years of age so as to attend this exam. Higher age limit is 30 years. Candidates who get through preliminary and main exam for this post, a physical test and P.I are the final step.

IPS -Indian Police Service

Civil Services exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

Candidated should be graduate from recognise university.

To apply for IPS exam candidate must be completed 21 years when candidate is appearing. Maximum age 30 for general category, 33 for obc and 35 for sc/st, ex-servicemen 35 years .

Number of Attempts:- 4 attempts for open, 7 for obc and no limit for sc/st.

Physical Standard:-

Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm
Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm
Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The correction is by lenses
only.

Exam Pattern :- There are two stages--

Preliminary Examination- It is of objective type, which is a qualifying exam.
Main Examination- It consists of written exam and interview.

The Preliminary exam is held in may/june and the main exam in october/november.

## The minimum educational qualification required to apply for IPS EXAM is graduation in any discipline from recognised institution/university & NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED
## Age limit to apply for IPS EXAMINATION is
~>21-30 years for GENERAL category candidates
~>21-33 years for OBC candidates
~>21-35 years for SC/ST candidates
