You have just joined the course so you are not ready for doing summer internship anywhere.
At the earliest, you can apply for summer training/internship while studying in 2nd year
so that you can do the internship during the summer vacation after completion of second
academic year.

There are various research and projects work running in every institution.

There is no fixed schedule for application for all internships.

Kindly check the IITs' websites on regular basis so that you do not miss any notification in
this regard.

I would like to first suggest you people that running behind this 'PROJECT' word will not
get you anything.

It would be good for you if you choose some topic of your interest and consult your
seniors and/or professors regarding the worthiness of the project.
Make a good cover letter and CV and try to get in touch with the professors of elite
universities and do not limit your reach in India only, let it go in abroad as well.
You can get the Email-IDs of professors on the institute website.

Email to as many professors as you can. You will definitely get replies and calls from the
professors with similar technical interest.

This is the only way you can land in a good university for summer internship.
