What is the procedure to join merchant navy?

To join the Merchant Navy the minimum qualification is 10+2. So if you have passed the 10+2 or pursuing then you are eligible for the entrance examination of NDA.

NDA stands for National Defence Academy and the examination is conducted by the UPSC twice in a year. The examination is conducted for the candidates who aspires to join the any of three wings of the Defence.

The eligibility for the examination are :-
* Candidates must be pursuing or passed 10+2 from a recognised board.
* Candidates must have Physics and Mathematics paper in the board examination.
* Candidates age must lie between 16.5-19 years.

The application forms are available on the www.upsc.gov.in in the month of January for the NDA I and in July for the NDA II. The examination for the same will be conducted in April and September.

The examination are conducted in two stages as Written and SSB. Only candidates who qualifies in the Written are eligible for the SSB. Questions in the written paper are from Mathematics , English and General Studies. The examination is total of 900 marks and it is expected that one who obtains 35%-40% marks qualifies in the written.
