hello sir,i wnt an advice from u about selection process in various iims .i have 78 % in 10 and 77% in 12 and now i am doing my b.tech .m in 3rd yr and preparing for CAT 2013.i want to ask from u that............1.with these marks if i get 98+ percentile in CAT i will get call from gud iims or not...............my friends r saying that iims send calls on the basis of 12 marks.......is it true

Before I answer your question let me make one thing clear that each IIM has its own criteria for giving admission which could be different from other each other. Getting admission for Masters in Business Administration course in top B-Schools in India that are known as IIMs is getting difficult and more complicated by the day.

So basically what you need to do is firstly perform well in the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam which you are preparing to appear in next year. If you are taking professional coaching help then you would be much better prepared for the CAT exam. What you need to do is ensure at least 50 percent marks in B.Tech course to be eligible in Common Admission Test. Since you are gunning for IIMs, I would say try to ensure at least 60 percent marks in B.Tech.

Your performance in CAT would play major role in MBA admission in IIMs. However these days IIMs give less importance to CAT score comparing to few years back. Earlier the weight of Common Admission Test in the selection process was 90 percent but it has been reduced to around 50 percent by the IIMs.

What this means is that your friends have told you exactly right. Your performance in 10th and 12th class is now a major factor for admission in IIMs. This trend was started by the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in 2010. IIMA made it clear that candidates apart from CAT score would also require at least 70 percent marks in 10th and 12th class before they get selected.

Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) even went ahead and now require 80 percent cut off in 12th board. Other colleges like IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode has also followed suite. Even despite severe criticism this has now become rule for those who want admission for MBA course in IIMs.

However looking at your performance in 10th and 12th, I don't think these changes are going to have any major impact on you. Just concentrate on the Common Admission Test and perform as good as you can. Remember that despite all the changes, the Common Admission Test score still plays a very vital role in the selection process.

Usually what IIMs do is called all the selected candidates to write application essay. These application essays are part of IIMs selection process. The next stage would be Group Discussion followed by the Personal Interview before you would get the admission.

In IIM Ahemedabad you need minimum 99 percentile in CAT exams to get a call for the GD and PI

CAT scores are given 70% weightage.
Rest 30% weightage is given to :
>> Class 10th, 12th, Bachelors and Masters Degree marks
>> Work experience

Since you ahve scored more than 80% marks both in 10th and 12th you will get maximum score for these two clases.
Try to score more than 60% marks in your Btech as well

i have secured 68% in 10th,69% in 12th and 68% in btech do i have any chance in IIM

I got 68% in 10th, 54% in 12th & 68% in Graduation and m preparing for CAT 2013. Do i stand a chance in getting in IIM?

No,it is a open platform provided by the CAT Exam.If you meet the Eligibility and get Passed in this exam,Then only you will be eligible to get Admission in IIM's.

In order to get appear in this exam,you will require to meet these Eligibility :-

Educational qualification :-

-->>You should be Graduation pass out in any stream from recognized university.

NOTE :- Your Engineering degree will be treated as Graduation Equivalent.If you will be in Final year then also you can apply for this exam.

Marks :-
-->>The minimum marks required in Graduation should be 50% if you are belong from the General/OBC category.
-->>If you belong from the SC/ST category then your minimum marks in Graduation should be 45% only.

IMPORTANT :- There in NO AGE LIMIT for appearing in this exam.

Friend After qualifying C.A.T exam you can take admission you will be eligible to take admission in IIMs.

C.A.T exam is conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Ahmadabad

ELIGIBILITY FOR C.A.T:-
> Pass graduation with minimum 50% marks.
For ST/SC candidate minimum 45% marks is require.
> There is no age limit.
> Candidate must be citizen of India.

After passing C.A.T exam you can take admission in top I.I.Ms like:-

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM C)

Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM B)

Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM L)

Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM I)

To select in IIMSyou need to clear entrance exam naming CAT if you get good score in CAT then only you qualify for IIM.Your score of 10th and 12th does not matter much you have to clear CAT exam with good score.

Selection Process For IIMs

After you get a good percentile in Common Admission Test(CAT) you need to clear the following rounds :-

>> Group Discussions
>> Personal Interview

The IIMs have made a point system according to which they take into consideration the following aspects before making a call to the candidate :-

>> CAT percentile
>> 10th percentage
>> 12th percentage
>> Graduation percentage
>> Work Experience

The point system for the various IIMs various differently..means different IIMs give different weightage to different aspects..

Considering your marks and a very good CAT score of 98 percentile you can expect a call from the newly opened IIMs but you need a percentile of above 99 to expect a call from the older IIMs..

You can go to http://catiim.in and check for the various criterion for the IIMs..

Few of my friends who have similar percentage as yours with no work experience and a percentile of 98 got calls from 5 of the new IIMs..

Your marks is average in academics.
But that does not stop you from getting selected in the IIM.

First thing is that you need to score more than 98 percentile marks in CAT 2013 exams.
If you score this much marks than only you get a call from any one of the IIM.
In the final selection process in IIM, 30% weightage is given to CAT score, 20 % to academics and work experience and rest 50% to GD and PI

Next CAT exams would be held in october 2013
So study hard and try to get good percentile

Calls criteria changes every year.
Few IIMs give lots of importance to academic record along with good percentile (99+).
Few IIMs give calls based on CAT score only.
So what your friend told you is not entirely correct.

Work hard as you many not get calls from all the IIMs but with 99+ percentile you do have chance of getting few calls atleast

Let me tell you, your 10th and 12th marks are very low.
10th and 12th marks plays a important role in getting admission to top institute, specially when it comes to IIMs.

Many IIMs not only look for percentile but also your academic record for giving you call for gd/pi.

Also 95 percentile is too less for getting call from IIMs

In order to get into IIMs you should target atleast 98.5+ percentile.
since you have less marks in 10th and 12th, your percentile should be 99+.
The more it is, the better it would be.

final admission is on the basis of

10th marks
12th marks
graduation marks
CAT score
GD
PI
Extra curricular

All the components mentioned above have different weightage. In order to increase your chance of getting selected, try to score maximum marks in each components

your 10th marks is ok but your 12th marks are not good.
though as per the eligibility criteria, percentage in 10 and 12th are not mentioned
but top IIMs do consider the 10th and 12th marks before giving calls
there are few candidates each year which do not get calls from top IIMs inspite of good CAT percentile.

at 95 percentile you wont be able to get any call from any IIM
for getting calls from IIMs and to make up for your less marks in 10th and 12th, you should have 99.5 and above

Final selection is based on
your 10th marks
12th marks
graduation marks
work ex
CAT score
GD/WAT
PI
extra curricular.

different weightage is assigned to different component.
Since you have less marks in 10th and 12th try to do good in other components

For getting call from IIM A, you need to have atleast 99.5 and above percentile.
your 10th , 12th and graduation marks are good enough
If you score good in CAT you have good chance

Following components are looked into for giving admission

10th marks
12th marks
graduation marks
work ex
CAT score
GD/WAT
PI
extracular

Since you have already done good in 10th, 12th and graduation marks, work for CAT score for getting the calls.
once you get call, do well for GD/WAT and PI
