To become an IAS officer, you can take B.Sc degree in Mathematics.

Those candidates who have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university are eligible for IAS exam.

Your age should be in between 21 years to 32 years for general candidates. Age relaxation is given below -

5 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates
3 years relaxation for OBC Candidates
10 years relaxation for PHC candidates
5 years relaxation for Ex-serviceman

No. of Attempts:

For General: 5
For OBC: 9
For SC/ST: No Restriction

Courses to be chosen in Graduation to be eligible for IAS:

There are several courses available to pursue after completion of 12th Class with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) subjects. The best course to choose basically depends upon your interests and achievements. Several courses available are,
>> Bachelor of Engineering/ B.Tech
>> Bachelor of Arts (B.A)
>> Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
>> Bachelor of Science (B.Sc)
>> BCA (Bachelor of Computer Application)
>> Bachelor of Business Management (BBM)
>> Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)

Although there are many courses, you need to choose the best course which gives you good scope after completion of studies. If you are willing to go at technical side then B.E/ B.Tech is the best course. Or if you are willing to go "Traditional Courses" side, then Bachelor of Arts is the best course. The minimum qualification required is "Graduation" in ANY DISCIPLINE from a recognized university.

You can do any graduation course of your interest from a recognized university. There is no specialised stream required for IAS exam and you shouldn't worry about subjects while doing graduation.

You have to prepare according to the UPSC syllabus and there will be optional subjects to choose from the given list of subjects. Just make sure that you fulfill the age criteria.
