UGC-NET Eligibility Criteria
UGC NET is conducted mainly to recruit research assistants and professors in various streams of education. Those who succeed in securing a NET score can target colleges and institutions in India for teaching jobs.
Basic Eligibility for UGC-NET
The basic eligibility for appearing in UGC-NET exam is a Master degree or equivalent in related subjects. The candidate must have a minimum of 55% (54.99% is not eligible) in this. The candidates appearing or have appeared for final year exams are also eligible. For appearing students they must produce their degree certificate within one year from the date of this test, otherwise they will be disqualified. The candidates who have pursued the degree as specified by UGC only are eligible for the exam. The candidate can appear for the related subject as studied in graduation. If the subjects are not covered as per UGC specification they can appear for their related subjects. The candidates qualifying the exam will be called for document verification at final stage.
The candidates who have qualified the SET exam are also eligible to appear for this. The SET qualified candidates are eligible for post of lecturer only to the specific state from where they are qualified.
Qualifying examinations for UGC-NET
The candidates those who have completed their post graduation in related subjects can appear for the exam. Those who have acquired post graduation from any recognized university are eligible for applying UGC-NET exam.
Age Qualification for UGC-NET
The candidates appearing for JRF should not be above 28 years of age. The candidates appearing only for lectureship have no upper age limit. Age relaxation of 5 years will be given to SC/ST/OBC or physically disabled or women or visually handicapped.
Who can apply for UGC-NET?
Any Indian citizen can appear for this exam. But they should have pursued the Master’s degree as per the UGC norms.
Exemption and Eligibility for Lectureship
The NET will be compulsory even for the candidates with Ph.D. The NET is must for the post of lecturer. There will be some exemptions for the M.Phil candidates. Those who have submitted their Ph.D thesis to the University before 31 December 2002 are avoided from this exam. Also those who have pursued M.Phil by 31 December 1993 are exempted from this.
The candidates with SLET qualification before 2002 June 1st are also exempted. But those who qualified the SLET, scheduled after June 2002, are eligible for working only in the Universities under the State. For those candidates, they are eligible for NET exams.

I have completed my PG from Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan College, Mysore, Karnataka. My college is neither affiliated to any University nor is AICTE approved. I have been awarded a degree PGPM(Post Graduate Program in Mangement) specialized in Finance and Marketing, which is termed as equivalent to MBA in corporates.
