CSIR or UGC NET, which exam to appear for admission in PhD being MSc(Biochemistry) student?

Hello everyone, I am doing MSc(Biochemistry). I want to give NET(National Eligibility Test). But I am little confused about CSIR and UGC? Which one is for me? What exam between these two I give for PhD admission?

You need to appear for CSIR-NET exam, which is Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. You will find the application form on their official website http://csirhrdg.res.in/ . They conduct the eligibility exam twice a year in June and in December. You can appear for their Chemical Sciences paper or their Life Sciences paper (whichever is suitable for you). The Life Sciences test is conducted in the morning session and the Chemical Sciences in the evening session of the same date.

A total of 200 marks MCQs are given and a 3 hour time is allotted for that. The 1st part contains general analytical questions of 2 marks each. The second part contains short questions on your literature knowledge of 2 marks each and the 3rd part contains research-oriented scientific conceptualized questions of 4 marks each. There will be negative marking of 25% for each wrong answer.

The eligibility for appearing are :
1. You should a post-graduate degree on the relevant subject from a recognized university.
2. You need to have at-least 55% marks in aggregate in case of general and OBC candidates and 50% marks in case of SC/ST.

Biochemistry is a life science subject and you can apply for CSIR NET Life Sciences subject, if you are looking for lectureship or Ph.D admission. UGC doesn't offer Biochemistry as one of the subject.

Hence, you don't have much choices according to your qualification. Just opt for CSIR NET and prepare according to the syllabus.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
