How many seats are available to get admission through GATE across India? Cutoff marks required to get admission?
Sir,
Kindly tell me the cutoff marks to acquire in GATE for getting admission? And tell me how many seats are available in M.Tech through GATE in all over India? |

# GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
# GATE is a national wide examination conducted to make admission of meritorious candidates for pursuing post graduate M.Tech and MS courses in reputed institutes like IITs IISc etc. The GATE is conducted collectively by the followings: * Seven Indian Institutes of Technology * Indian Institute of Science Technology * National Institute of Technology * Department of Education, MHRD, Government of India * Many other universities # Aim of GATE: * To judge the candidate's knowledge in engineering discipline * GATE provide the opportunity to pursue higher education (i.e. M.Tech/M.E.) in reputed institutes. * Post graduate degree in engineering or technology is helpful in the higher studies such as Ph.D. * GATE score helpful in the recruitment drive conducted by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) as well as private companies. # Few important points regarding GATE are: * GATE score is presently considered valid for only next two years. * Written examination of GATE is of total 100 marks. * Duration of written Test is three hours. # Cut off marks can be defined as the minimum marks must be obtained by the candidate in GATE in order to pursue for various M. Tech and M.E courses by way of getting admission in reputed IITs, NITs etc. # In general, the cut off of examination varies from year to year. Cut off of any examination may goes up or goes down depending upon certain factors. The main factors which decides the cut off of any examination are: * Number of students participating * Difficulty level of question paper * Number of seats advetised * Performance of candidates in the examination # Similarly, here below few factors are mentioned which decides the cut off of GATE: * Number of institutes participating * Number of students applied * Number of available seats * Number and type of courses offered * Toughness of question paper # There is provision of scholarship/financial assistance/fellowship for valid GATE score holder by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). # The scholarship/financial assistance/fellowship are basically provided for master degree as well as Ph.D in Architecture, Engineering, Technology etc. # CSIR Laboratories also grant the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to candidate with engineering background plus valid GATE score holder. # Followings are the guidelines of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) which must be adopted while offering admission to master degree and Ph.D programmes: * While offering admission to the candidate, the weightage given to GATE performance must not be below 70%. * The weightage given to other factors such as interview, marks obtained in qualifying exam must not above 30%. # The GATE score are given from rank 0 to 1000 irrespective of year of examination, paper of GATE. |
