Selection to IAS is conducted in two main stages, prelims and mains. General aptitude, general science, Indian Polity, history of India, Indian/world geography, etc forms the syllabus for prelims exam. General studies and English language are the main areas covered in mains exam. There will be 7 papers for mains, out of which one is optional paper. Detailed syllabus can be collected from UPSC portal.
