Diabetology is a branch of clinical science, which treats and diagnosis the disease of diabetes, which is faced by a number of people all over the world these days. This field can be treated as a specialized field of endocrinology. Professionals, whose research efforts or practice mainly focuses on this disease are called as diabetologists.
Diploma in Diabetology is a PG diploma course that is offered to MBBS graduates, who wish to do their specialization diploma in diabetology. Only a few colleges in India offer Diploma in Dabetology course and the names of government colleges offering this course are given below:

• Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai
Intake capacity:
The Madras Medical College, which is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. University, is permitted to admit three students per year for the Diploma in Diabetology course. On the other hand, the Topiwala National Medical College, which is presently affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences are permitted to admit 12 students per year for this course.
Objectives of Diploma in Diabetology course:
The main objective of the diploma in diabetology course is to offer an extensive insight of updated concepts about management and etio-pateiology of the problem of diabetes. The main objective with which the course was introduced by the Medical Council of India is to offer a family physician/general practitioner to the diabetes and the complications pertaining to this highly faced disease. This course is mainly designed for management of outpatient in a hospital and it also offers some exposure to medical problems pertaining to diabetes, diabetic emergencies and inpatient complications caused by diabetes. The course offers both theoretical and practical coaching to the students in effective treatment of the condition of diabetes.
Eligibility requirement:
For seeking admission to this Postgraduate Diploma course, candidates must have completed their MBBS from a recognized institution that is approved by the Medical Council of India. Like other PG medical degree courses, admission to this course is also done based on the performance of the students in admission test conducted either at the state level or at the national level.
Scope of Diploma in Diabetology:
Nowadays, with the increasing incidence of people getting diabetics, diabetologists are in great demand not only in India, but in foreign countries as well. This is because diabetologists not only offers medicines for diabetics, they also focus on other medical complications faced by patients with diabetes and takes effective care of their health.
