The KEAM Exam is the gateway for admissions to professional courses like Engineering, Medical, Agriculture, Veterinary and Architecture in the colleges of Kerala.The KEAM Medical Physics and Chemistry Papers are usually conducted on the same day. The duration of the paper is two and a half hours. Both Physics and Chemistry papers will have objective type questions with Multiple Choices. However, there is only one correct answer. There will be five suggested answers for each question. The candidate has to choose from the five options and write the correct alphabet in the separate answer sheet. The question paper for objective type examinations are provided in Question Booklets which are permitted to take home after the exam.

Each paper has 120 questions. There is negative marking on the paper so as to discourage the students from random guessing and chance correct answers. For each correct answer the candidate is awarded four marks and for each incorrect one half mark is deducted from the overall or total score. In case the candidate does not attempt the question, no marks will be deducted. In case the candidate answers more than a single response for a given question, the rule of negative marking of half mark will be enforced again.
