Model Engineering College is located in a town called Thrikkakara at Kochi and the institute is a premier institution that has found its way into the pinnacle of the engineering arena in a span of just 20 years. The institute holds the pride of being the first self-financing institution to be established by the Kerala Government under the aegis of the Institute of Human Resource Development for Electronics, IHRD and the first institute to be affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology. Among the top 50 government engineering colleges in India, MEC has been featured with the 28th position.

Model Engineering College offers the following full-time courses with affiliation from the CUSAT:

• Bachelor of Technology in

o Electronics and Biomedical Engineering

o Computer Science and Engineering

• Master of Technology in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems

Intake Capacity:

As far as B. Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Biomedical Engineering courses are concerned, MEC is approved with an intake capacity of 60 students per year, for Computer Science & Engineering, its intake capacity is 90 students per year, while for electronics & communication engineering, the intake capacity of institution is 120 students per year. The admission capacity with respect to M. Tech course is 18 students per year. In addition to these seats, 10% students are allotted in each branch for B. Tech courses from Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination Rank according to the orders of the government of Kerala.

Academic Eligibility:

Candidates who have completed their +2 examination from the state of Kerala or any other recognized board with not less than 50% of marks in mathematics separately and 50% of marks in biology/computer science/biotechnology/chemistry and physics and mathematics put together are eligible to seek admission to the B. Tech courses. For M. Tech course, candidates with B. Tech in appropriate discipline are eligible to apply.

Admission Procedure:

Out of the total number of seats available for each course, 85% of seats are filled through Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination of Government of Kerala. Remaining 15% of seats are reserved for non-resident Indians and for these seats, rank list is prepared based on the marks secured by the candidates in the qualifying examination.

Placement Cell:

Right from the year 2004, the institute has been providing campus placement opportunity to its students through campus recruitments. The placement cell is also engaged in other activities like:

• Soft skill development programs needed for the corporate

• Regular online technical tests to prepare the students for interviews

• The institute also conducts technical talks with a view of expansion of technical knowledge of its students
