NET or National Eligibility Test is done to determine the eligibility of lectureship and they are appointed as JRF or junior research fellowship. It is for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrance in the teaching profession and research. The paper is done in the subjects of Computer Science and Applications, Humanities, Forensic Science, Library and Information Science, Social Sciences etc.

Paper Pattern:

Questions in the paper are of subjective type. The paper contains questions as descriptive type. All questions are of long answer type and total questions in the paper are 11. Section A is of 10 questions and each question contains its alternative whereas Section B is of 1 question and it has 3 alternatives. Each question in the section A is of 16 marks and question of section B is of 40 marks. Questions of section A is of essay writing and it is to be answered in 300 words whereas question of section B is to be answered in 800 words.

The questions asked are such as concept of intellectual property, various steps of information transfer cycle, need of library resource sharing, library extension service, documentary and non-documentary sources of information, bibliographic database, library automation in India, time managements of library, impact of IT on library, criteria of selecting software and hardware in library automation etc.

Total Marks and time allotted:

Maximum marks which can be obtained in the paper are 200 and time allotted for the purpose is 2 hours and 30 minutes only. Section A is of 160 marks and each question is of 16 marks and Section B is of 40 marks and there is only 1 question in it.
