Generally, the work of consultants is to offer an outsider’s perspective for the organization with a view to improve some aspect of its operations. Normally, the term consultant is accompanied by a particular function like Ayurveda Consultant, Statistical consultant, plan monitoring consultant, to name a few. In government organizations in India, candidates appointed for the position of Consultants are brought under the pay brand of Rs.15600-39100 plus a GP of Rs.6600. However, many government organizations offer them a consolidated pay based on the branch for which they are appointed and their experience.

Educational qualification required for applying to the post of Consultant:

Many organizations look for PG degree holders in the appropriate discipline for which the applications are invited. For instance, for the post of Statistical Consultant, candidates must have completed their Master of Science in Statistics.

Difference in pay scale:

As mentioned earlier, not all public sector organizations bring consultants under the pay branch of Rs.15600-39100 and most of the organizations offer consolidated pay for this position. The consolidated pay rate would be somewhere between Rs. 15000 to the maximum of Rs.50000. Therefore, candidates applying for the position of consultant in Government organizations can expect a pay scale of not less than Rs. 15000 per month, which will further increase as the candidate more and more experience of working as consultant in the same field for several years.

Job responsibilities of the position of consultant:

Particular job responsibilities of consultant depend purely on the type of work for which they are recruited. Generally speaking, the basic responsibility of a candidate appointed for the position of consultant would be to understand the business of the organizations for which he/she is appointed.

Skills to be possessed by a consultant:

A candidate looking to be hired for the position of Consultant should have good written and verbal communication skills so that they can clearly state their recommendations to the higher authorities in such a way that improvement can be brought about in the operations of the organization.
