Scholarship Details in IIT, Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT – Guwahati) offers different types of scholarship programs for students. Some of the top scholarship programs offered are - Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS), Indian Women’s Association, Bonn (IWAB) Scholarship, Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) Scholarship and SC-ST Scholarships. The eligibility criteria, scholarship amount and the benefits awarded for each type of scholarship differ with each other.

Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS)
B.Tech, B.Des, M.Sc and M.A students are eligible to cater the benefits of this scholarship. This type of scholarship is awarded to those candidates who become toppers in each year and is awarded to candidate right from second year onwards. As part of the benefits of this scholarship, tuition fee is waived for two semesters. Apart from this, students also get a fixed monthly stipend of Rs 500/- for two semesters. The scholarship period is 8 months.
Indian Women’s Association, Bonn (IWAB) Scholarship
IWAB scholarship is based on an endowment scheme, from the Indian Women’s Association, Bonn awarded mainly to the undergraduate girl students. It is possible for an undergraduate girl student to apply for this scholarship throughout the even semester of an academic year. Only those candidates who secure a minimum SPI of 7.0 in 1st semester of the course can apply for IWAB scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded for a period of 1 year and eligible ones are offered with a fixed amount of Rs 15, 000/-. The final recommendation for this scholarship program is made on the basis of merit cum means of candidates along with a recommendation from the scholarship selection committee.
Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) Scholarship
Those non SC/ST candidates who have completed any of the courses namely B.Tech, B.Des, M.Sc and M.A courses are eligible to apply. Selection of candidates for this scholarship will depend on recommendation of the scholarship selection committee on merit – cum means basis. Those candidates who have passed 12th class from a school or institute by paying an annual tuition fee of more than Rs 30,000/- per annum cannot avail this scholarship. Candidate’s parent’s annual income should not be above Rs 4.5 lakhs per annum. Eligible candidates pursuing B.Tech/B.Des course must have scored not less than 60% marks from 2nd to 4th year. In case of M.A or M.Sc, the required percentage of marks must be obtained during 2nd year. Candidates are given a fixed stipend of Rs 1000/- per month along with a tuition fee waiver for two semesters.
SC-ST Scholarships
SC-ST candidates who have completed B.Tech, B.Des, M.Sc and M.A courses can apply for this scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded to students on means basis. Those students who have passed 12th class from an institute with an annual tuition fee of more than Rs.30, 000/- per annum will not be eligible for this scholarship program. Also, candidate’s parent’s annual income should not be above Rs 4.5 lakhs per annum. The scholarship is awarded for a period of 8 months. The benefits of the scholarship program include a fixed stipend of Rs 250/- per month. Along with this, candidates are given exemption from paying the mess fees and hostel room rent. The tuition fees are also waived off for students as apart of the scholarship benefits.
