Selection Process for M.A program in TISS
TISS offers various Master’s programs in areas like Social Work, Development Studies, Disaster Management, etc. The institute screens eligible students for admission to these programs based on written test, group discussion and also a personal interview.

Eligibility Criteria for applying to M.A Program
Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized University to apply for the Master’s programs offered at TISS. Those who are applying for Master of Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine. Final year students are not eligible to apply for any of the programs offered here. Those who are applying for Master in Habitat Policy and Practice should have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following.
- Engineering
- Architecture
- Planning
- Law
- Social Sciences
- Management
- Physical Sciences
- Geography
Written Test
The written test will comprise of 2 parts. Part 1 will be a common test for all programs. There are 3 sections in this paper. The first section includes questions from General awareness, second section includes questions from Analytical/logical reasoning and also quantitative ability and the third section will have questions from Verbal Reasoning. The test duration will be 45 minutes.
Part 2 will be have questions on specific program topics for which candidate is applying and duration will be 60 minutes.
Group Discussion
Those who qualify in the written test will have to face a group discussion round. It will also asses one’s sensitivity to various social issues and his ability to communicate in a group. The time duration will be 25 minutes except for M.A in Social Work which will be 20 minutes. This round will also judge one’s interpersonal interactions and also communication skills.
Personal Interview
Those who will qualify in the group discussion will have to face a personal interview round. The students can expect questions from the specialization chosen by them. There will be questions from social issues also. In this round one can expect questions to assess sensitivity towards various issues and also fellow beings. There will be questions on career goals, aspirations and also subject knowledge.
