Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was established in the year 2009 as an agency of the Government of India. The authority is responsible for the implementation of the envisioned multipurpose National Identity card or UID i.e. Unique Identification card project in the country. The amjor objective of the authority is to provide unique identification number to all the Indian. The headquarter of the authority is located in New Delhi. Mr. Nandan Nilekani is the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, who also holds a cabinet rank.
