University Institute of Information Technology is shortly called as UIIT and it is a premier institution of excellence in information technology and science that develops leaders and professionals of high calibre imbued with values of social responsibility, ethics and entrepreneurship. The institute has been functioning since the year 2000 under the executive council of the Himachal Pradesh University. The institute offers B. Tech course with approval from the All India Council of Technical Education.

Course Details:

The only course offered by the University Institute of Information Technology is Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology. The duration of this course is four years and it is spread over 8 semesters on full-time basis. The institute right from its inception maintains very good collaboration with IT industry and therefore the institute arranges for workshops conducted by IT professions and it offers hands on experience to the students by arranging for summer and winter trainings and these are followed as part of course curriculum by the institution. The first sessional exam for each year will be conducted on the first week of April every year and the second sessional examination will be conducted during the final week of the month of May.

Application and Academic Session:

The institute begins to sell the prospectus and application form in its campus during the month of March every year and candidates will have to submit the duly filled application before the end of May the same year. Entrance examination for admission of students will be held during the final week of the month of June for which results will be declared during the first week of July. Counseling will be conducted for first year entrants during the middle of July and for lateral entry candidates, it will be conducted during the first week of August. Normally classes will commence from the first week of August.

The cost of application is Rs.1000 if the application is obtained in person.  In case application is downloaded, DD for an amount of Rs.1100 should be drawn in favor of University Institute of Information Technology, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla payable at Shimla and this DD should be submitted along with application at the time of submission of filled-in application.

Campus placements:

As mentioned earlier, the institute maintains close collaboration with IT industry and a full-time placement cell is functioning under the institute for offering placement opportunities to the students in IT industry. As a step towards final placement of the students, the institute conducts workshops and training programmes right from the beginning of the course to strengthen the skills of its students.
