The term V.S.S. in the name of the college stands for Veer Surendra Sai and this college was established in the year 1959 with a different name and the college received its present name in the academic year 1967-68.

V.S.S. Medical College is offering the following courses with affiliation from Sambalpur University:

• MBBS

• Diploma in Medical Lab Technology

• Diploma in Medical Radio Therapy Technology

• Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing Course

Admission:

V.S.S. Medical College admits student to the MBBS course, which is spread over 5.5 years based on the performance of the students in the Joint Entrance Examination. In the process of admission, reservation of seats is done by the college on the basis of norms issued by the Government of India from time to time for medical colleges. Only candidates belonging to the state of Orissa can apply for the entrance examination. Admission of students belonging to other students is made as per the guidelines of the government.

Admission Capacity of the college:

For the past three years, the intake capacity of the college was 150 students for the MBBS course. For the DMRT course, the college is permitted to admit 10 students per year, for DMLT it is 40 students and for Nursing course, the intake capacity of the college is 50 seats.

Campus of the College:

The campus of the college includes a hospital with 28 different departments like gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiothoracic surgery, burn care unit, etc…and the administration is also planning to introduce several other specializations in the hospital. The campus also houses the specialization departments like ENT, SPM, General Medicine, Pathology, anesthesiology, general surgery, physiology, SPM, etc…

Academic events of the college:

The college is conducting different workshops to offer better medical awareness to students and teachers. In this connection, regular workshops are conducted by the college on HIV/AIDS, Eye Donation and Retrival CME, World TB Day, etc…
