Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (HIMSR) came into existence as a small Unani clinic in the year 1906. HIMSR was established by the well-known Unani practitioner Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed. Then his son continued to carry forward the philosophy and objectives of Hamdard Institute for development of Unani medicines for curing diseases. Hamdard National Foundation established in 1964 to take up charitable causes in the areas of education and medical relief. Jamia Hamdard was opened by Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi on August 01, 1989. The university is offering education under the faculties of allied health sciences, social sciences & Islamic studies, Information technology & management studies, nursing, medicine, pharmacy and science. It is offering courses under UG, PG and Ph. D level and admission is offered by the university not only to Indian Students, but also to foreign students as well.
