Candidates who have passed higher secondary examination in First Class marks are eligible to apply for the post of Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant in India Post. They should be in the age group of 18-27 at the time of application. Selection procedure is on the basis of written test as well as computer typing test. Mathematics, Analytical Ability, Reasoning, etc forms the syllabus of this objective type written test.

Eligibility Criterion for India Post Office Postal/ Sorting Assistant 2012

Candidates who wish to apply for the post of Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant are required to fulfill the following eligibility criteria.

  • Candidates should have completed 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Upper age limit for eligibility is 27 years.
  • They should have secured a minimum of 60 % marks in aggregate in higher secondary Course.

Candidates belonging to reserved categories can enjoy relaxation in upper age limit as per the norms issued by the Government of India. Those who belong to Other Back ward Classes can avail relaxation up to 5% in terms of qualifying marks. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST the minimum qualifying marks required is 45%. Apart from this candidates should have adequate knowledge of the local language of the State of Union Territory they apply.

Exam Pattern for India Post Office Postal/ Sorting Assistant 2012

The Exam Pattern contains two sections that is

  • Written Test
  • Computer Typing Test

Written test contains questions to evaluate candidate’s aptitude level. There will be objective type questions in this section. Maximum time duration allotted for the entire test is 2 hours. Questions will be asked from topics such as Mathematics, General Knowledge, Reasoning, Analytical Ability and English Language. There will be a total of 100 questions. Each question carries one mark.

Out of a total of 100 questions, 25 questions will be asked from general knowledge area. The section includes questions from recent national and international issues, sports, business, and important personalities. Mathematics section contains 25 questions which includes basic Mathematics prescribed for matriculation students. Questions in English Language section will be asked to check candidates’ awareness in English Grammar and vocabulary. There will be a maximum of 25 questions in this section. Reasoning part carries 25 questions each having one mark.

Those who have cleared written test will be shortlisted for Computer Typing test. In this section, candidates are required to type a given passage of 450 words in English or 375 words in Hindi. The maximum time allotted for this test is 30 minutes. Candidates are required to have typing speed of 25/ 30 words per minute to clear this test.
