Structure of Acharya Nagarjuna University M.Sc. Statistics Entrance Exam

Acharya Nagarjuna University M.Sc. Statistics Entrance Exam includes 100 multiple choice questions. The duration of the test is 90 minutes. There will be no negative marking for the wrong answers.

  • Analysis of variance of one way and two way classifications
  • Principles experimentation – randomization, replication and local control
  • Description  and analysis of completely randomized, randomized block and Latin square designs

  • Probability and Bayes  theorem
  • Discrete and continuous random variables, distribution and density functions
  • Mathematical expectation of random variable
  • Definitions and properties of probability generating function, moment generating function, and cumulant generating function, characteristic function
  • Chebyshavs inequality and its uses, Cauchy-Schwartz inequality
  • Bivariate random variable, joint, Marginal and Conditional distributions
  • Discrete distributions:- Binomial, Geo-metric Negative Binomial, Hyper Geometric and Poisson distributions
  • Continuous Distributions
  • Normal   Rectangular, exponential, Beta, Gamma and Cauchy distributions
  • Concepts of population, sample statistics, sampling distribution, Standard error, exact sampling distributions – Chi.square , t, F, distribution
  • Point estimator – criteria-of good estimator-consistency-Unbiasedness efficiency-sufficiency, Fisher Neyman Factorization theorem derivations-poisson- exponential cases
  • Estimation by the   moments, of maximum likelihood estimation.
  • Concepts of null hypothesis-alternative hypothesis critical region-two types of errors-level of significance and power of a test
  • Neymen-Peason lemma for testing a simple hypothesis
  • Notion of Randomised test procedure
  • Statement of N-P Lemma in discrete case
  • Simple examples in the cases of Binomial and Poisson

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates appearing for the M.Sc. Statistics Entrance Exam must have completed their B.A or B.Sc. with Statistics and Mathematics as two of the three subjects.

How to Apply?

The candidates can collect the application forms for the Acharya Nagarjuna University M.Sc. Statistics entrance exam from any of the centres as directed by the university by remitting a fee of Rs. 300/-. The Dully filled application forms must be sent to Prof. M.V.S. Koteswara Rao, Director, Directorate of Admissions, Acharya Nagarjuna University on or before the last date of submission. The documents like acknowledgement card, computer data sheet, attested photocopies of certificates, and 3 stamped envelopes also should be sent along with the form.

How to fill the Form?

The university brochure includes relevant details about the course and the application form. The candidates should read the brochure before filling the form. The aspirants must be very careful in filling the form. The candidate should enter the name and date of birth as per the high school certificate. The candidate should provide full address along with the pin code. The aspirant should also provide signature in the specified space. Check once more before the submission whether all the columns have been filled.
