Durgapur Government College was established in the year 1970 on the 15th of September and it is affiliated to Burdwan University. The college was established with the objective of helping students to identify their latent potential not only in the educational field, but also in extra-curricular activities as well.

Library in Durgapur Government College:
The central library of Durgapur Government College is constructed in a separate building and it includes more than 60000 periodicals and journals. The library is offered with internet facility and in addition to central library, each department of the college is provided with separate libraries known as departmental seminar library.

Apart from offering placement assistance to the students, the placement & Career Counseling cell functioning in Durgapur Government College is offering guidance to the students in choosing their career and it also offers opportunities to the students to pursue their higher studies.
Athletics and Games activities in the college:
Different athletic activities and games (both outdoor and indoor) are organized by the physical education department functioning under the college. The students of the college take part in inter-college tournaments every year and different awards have been won by students in games like badminton, table tennis and football.
