When it comes to engineering education in Visakhapatnam, GITAM and Andhra Pradesh Universities themselves confer engineering degrees and admission of students to the engineering courses offered by GITAM is done based on entrance examination conducted by the university on its own called as GITAM Admission Test, while admissions to other engineering colleges in city of Visakhapatnam is done based on the merit secured by candidates in the EAMCET examination.

Eligibility requirement for taking up EAMCET Examination:

For taking up EAMCET examination, candidates must have completed or they should have appeared for the final year of the intermediate examination with chemistry, physics and mathematics subjects or related vocational courses in the field of engineering and technology conducted by the Board of Intermediate education of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Even, candidates who have appeared or completed their final year of the Diploma examination in engineering are also eligible to apply.
