Sir, actually I finished diploma in mechanical engineering. Now, I want to take admission in government college. What is the procedure for get lateral entry in NIT or any government college.

Sorry, to say that NITs does not offer lateral entry admission in Engineering course. Only candidates who have passed 12th standard with PCM stream from a recognised board are eligible to apply for admission to engineering course in NIT through JEE Main examination. To get lateral entry admission in other government colleges, you have to appear in lateral entry examinations like LEET, ECET, JELET, etc., which is conducted by your respective state technical board. By qualifying the entrance examination, based on your examination rank, you will be allotted a seat in a particular college and you can get admission in second year of four years B.Tech course.

The admission in NIT's is not possible through lateral entry after diploma degree. So, you will be not eligible to get admission in it.

But admission in the state government colleges are offered through LEET examination after qualifying in examination.

So, after the diploma you can appear for entrance examination conducted by PTU, APJTU etc for admission in 2nd year of course.

I am sorry to say that IITs and NITs do not allow admission in B.Tech degree through LEET examination. Therefore, you should opt for admission in some other Institute in order to get admission in 2nd year of B.Tech and not in NIT.

You can get admission in various other government as well as private Instiutes after scoring well in your LEET examination.
