Although IES exam doesn't have any argument with if you have done your BE/B Tech through distance education.

But since you have done BS, Bachelor of Science, which is a three year course only, much different from B Tech /BE course, so it means you can not write IES exam just after completing BS, you need to complete Msc in Maths/ Science/ Statistics as well. After that you can apply for IES exam.

So you need a degree in Engineering from a recognised university or equivalent.

M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering are also acceptable.

There is no limitation on number of attempts. But there is age criteria , according to which, 21-30 yrs are eligible, with relaxation for reserved categories.

Number of vacancies are approx, 500 divided among electrical, civil , mechanical and ece departments. If you want more information about this examination then please check official UPSC Website.

eligblity for ies exam;-
**you must have passed a bechelor engineering degree in the following branch

• Electrical Engineering
• Electronics & Communications Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering

** age limit is 21-30 years
Selection Processor:

For this exam the selection processor is based on the written test and personal interview conducted by the UPSC examination.Apart from first conducted the written test after qualifying you can attend for personal interview

For this exam the apply based on offline and applications are available at official website by paying the 20 rupees you can get application form and here no fee for reserved category candidates.

I am afraid but you are not eligible to give this exam since only B.Tech students and some PG students are only eligible to give this exam. Please read this full eligibility criteria to know more about it.

IES Eligibility Criteria:

>>If you have a four year B.Tech degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or electronics and communication engineering can apply for this exam.

>>If you have a M.Sc degree in areas like electronics, radio physics, radio engineering or wireless communication can also apply.

Stream wise exam pattern:



At the most you can give the exam for four times.

Selection procedure includes written test and personality test.

I am sorry to say that you are not eligible for I.E.S exam after passing B.S.

For Indian Engineering services the candidate must pass B.Tech/B.E in any one branch in following :-
• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Electronics Engineering

After passing B.S you can apply for:-
> I.A.S
> I.F.S
> I.P.S
> C.D.S
etc

I have cmpleted BS ( marine engineering ) four year course from tolani maritime institute , where the degree is issued by BITS PILANI.
Am I eligible for IES examination ??
