Dear,

Petroleum engineering is a branch of mechanical engineering. It is basically done at post graduation level after completing your b.tech(mechanical will be preferred). Many institutes provide admission at graduation level for this course. If your PCM marks in 12th are at least 50% then you can write any of the engineering entrance exam according to which you want to take admission. IITs and NITs are preferred mainly for engineering students which you can get after qualifying JEE mains and JEE prelims from 2013 on wards.
