sir,
i am currently in BE 3rd sem. and i am planning to appear in GATE exam in my 3rd or 4th year. now i am wondering that if i will appear in exam in 3rd sem of my engg, then will i be able to learn whole GATE syllabus? i mean the syllabus will be different or same if i appear in exam in 3rd or 4th year? so please guide me which year is suitable for me to appear in exam?

There is no value if you give GATE exam now...because

1.the certificate or the GATE score card is valid upto 2 years...and so you will not be able to use your score card after you complete your graduation..

2. the syllabus of GATE includes mainly 3rd year and 4th year branch subjects...


So you will probably not be able to answer any question in GATE...

you can give the exam just to have an experience...

The syllabus for GATE exam usually doesnot change..but sometimes it has sliht modifications in its question pattern...

No dear you cannot appear for the GATE exam. however you may apply for it in the next year.good luck.

yea you may appear in GATE in 2nd year also. but the GATE score is valid for two years. so if you do well in the GATE examination in 2nd year then you will not get chance to take admission with this course as you will not complete your graduation within two years. even if you appear in 2nd year most of the syllabus of the GATE will be unknown to you. so it is not possible to do well in the examination.

but if you want to appear for only exam experience then you may appear. but it will be useless.

i think you should appear in GATE examination in 3rd year. because if you do well in 3rd year you will get a chance to take admission with this score card. i will suggest to appear in GATE in 3rd year and 4th year. and use the best score to take admission.

yes you can appear for GATE in 2nd year engineering just to get some idea. but your rank will not be valuable.

the GATE eligibilty is given below

1.minimum graduation in engineering.

final year & prefinal year btech students are allowed to attain in the gate exam.

2.after msc doing msc. students are also eligibile to attain in the gate exam.

there have not any age limit to attain in the gate exam.

For just knowledge about the syllabus of GATE, you can see the prospectus of GATE.
You need not to appear in GATE for syllabus only & it is not permissible in 2nd year.

If the validity of GATE score will be of 3 years then you will eligible, but at present information only 3rd year & above student can appear in GATE exam, so i suggest you to wait for next year.

But you can join any coaching institute for the preparation of GATE & get the information about the question pattern as well as preparing technique for GATE.

Yes definetely you can apply but remember if you are selected then also you will not be able to take admission . So it will be useless for you . However if interested you can sit in that exam . Now the choice is yours

students who already holds a bachelor's degree or are in final year or pre final year ( i.e 3rd and 4th year in your case) are eligible to sit for GATE.

you can sit from next year.

but you can start preparing now...

Actually the matter is that you can't appear for the gate exam in your second year. The gate paper contains the syllabus till fifth semester. So you can't able to write the gate paper anymore in the 2nd year.
However you can apply in the pre-final and final year of the engineering so that you can collect the application form, bank like canera bank, bank of india, united bank of India etc.
Otherwise you can apply online by registering into the IIT official websites.
As the GATE exam conducted by the IIT madras so you have to register on the following link given below:

Though you are in 3rd semester,It is just starting of your subjects.Actually GATE syllabus is designed as a complete of respective engineering field.Presently I thing you are unware about the other subjects in your 4,5 and 6th semester.So,It is impossible for making good in GATE.and also you are not officially eligible because minimum criteria is pre-final or final year students,you are not among them.

GATE syllabus is not change frequently,if it is then it will be notified.

At present there is no need to appear in the gate exam.I want to inform you that in gate exam question comes from the syllabus of 2nd year and 3rd year and you would not do well. If you want to know the syllabus of gate and pattern of exam then you should join test series.I am giving the name of some of test series that are as follows:

1.GATE forum
2.Path finder
3.Career launcher
When you join such type of test series then you have to face number of mock tests of Gate, in this way your preparation will be good and in 3rd when you will appear in the exam , your performance will be good.

the syllabus of gate does not change,it would be better if you give in 3rd year because syllabus consists of subject of 5th,6th,7th,8th sem.

only final and pre final year students are eligible to appear in GATE exam.........and till 3rd sem you are even not aware about the basic subjects....so u be consistent in studying them........but appear in 3rd year only.........the syllabus do not changes frequently...........but one can never be sure about the pattern of exam.........Generally we have a standard patern for them also.......

you give exam in 3rd and 4th year.Main syllabus start from 2nd yr.you should hard labour and basic concept clear from 2nd year you can good score in GATE.you don't remember anything you should understood and basic concept clear.

You can write GATE exam in third year since validity of GATE is only for two years
If you want, then you can prepare for GATE from now itself
Mainly the gate contains portions from third year and fourth year, there are only two papers from second year.All others are from third year and fourth year

yes you can appear for gate exam from 2nd year as there is no limitation on number of GATE attempts and no age bar.
If you score well it will be valid for 2 years and if you donot satisfy then you can write it again and the better marks will be taken in consideration.....

because this is valid only 2yrs. and your syllabus is not complete upto 2nd yr. that's why you can exam but not any profit..........

Yes you can appear for the GATE exam but my sincere suggestion is to appear for the GATE exam in the 3 rd year.

Because GATE score is valid for a period of two years only. So even if you attempt for the exam, you can not make use of your GATE score because with in the two years you are unable to complete your graduation.

More over just by attempting in the 2nd year, you may not have the sufficient knowledge of subject with you. So getting good score will be difficult.

So my suggestion is to prepare well for the exam from 2nd year, go through several previous papers and try to attempt at least in the third year of your graduation.

It is not possible to appear for GATE in II year. Prepare and do it in III year. It does not change frequently.

surely just attend you will get an idea hows is the exam, please prepare well and attend in 3 year ok, syallabus will remain same.
