NET : National Eligibility Test
JRF : Junior Research Fellowship

JRF is a kind of Fellowship awarded to eligible candidates based on their score in NET.
JRF can be awarded through other channels too e.g., Direct Walk-In-Interview, GATE etc.,
depending on college.

For students of science background, NET is conducted by CSIR.
(CSIR : Council of Scientific & Industrial Research)
http://www.csirhrdg.res.in/

Biotechnology students are supposed to appear CSIR-NET with LIFE SCIENCE subject.

JRF can be awarded till a certain age only.
As you have done M.Tech. 7 years ago so I am sure you would have crossed 28.
If you are older than 28 then you can't apply for JRF.
In that case NET score can be utilised to apply for Lectureship only.
