No, it is not possible to get the admission in the NIT. NIT stands for the National Institute of Technology as the admission is only for those candidates whose score is less than the 25,000 in general category.

So according to me your rank is above 25,000 so you are not eligible to get the admission but if you belong to the reserved category there is more chance of getting the admission in the NIT.

But you are eligible to get the admission in some of the government colleges associated with the JEE. So you can try for it. The Mains rank are prepared on the basis of the score in the Mains and the board aggregate.

Sorry, it is not possible to get the admission in NIT with the 149 score in the JEE Mains if you belongs to the general category.

To get the admission in the NIT the minimum score is above 180 with 90+% in the board examination. But still you can afford to get the admission in the good government colleges.

So, wait for the final counselling conducted by the CBSE. NIT Jalandhar is among the best NIT in India so it may be tough to get in the desired course. But never try to manage or compensate with the stream due to the institute as stream and your interest plays a major role.
