SET stands for State Eligibility Test. Yes, Candidates can give SET exam after pursuing MTech in Mechanical and Machine Design.

Yes, you can give SET / NET exam. Net (National eligibility test) is conducted by UGC alone and CSIR-UGC jointly.

There is no special paper for mechanical engineering in both net exams.

The net exam conducted by CSIR-UGC used to has a stream called engineering sciences, every branch of engineering student is eligible to write.

However, it's mainly advantage to mechanical engineering student due to it's syllabus and paper pattern.
