Re: Exam pattern and syllabus for IAS entrance exam? I am a 4th year engineering student in ECE
IAS Exam will have a new pattern of examination.
There will be change in the first stage i.e Preliminary Examination while the other stage consisting of Mains and Interview will remain the same. The preliminary examination which is held to select candidates for the next round mains will be replaced by Civil Services Aptitude Test. The new test CSAT will no longer focus on testing the subject knowledge and awareness. The new format emphasizes more on judging the mental ability of the candidate instead of subject knowledge. There will be two common papers of 200 marks each in CSAT. Each paper will be of two hours duration. The papers will be objective type and will focus on aptitude skills and ethical and moral dimensions of decision making. All students will have the same questions irrespective of their educational background. CSAT Examination The first paper will be almost similar to General Awareness paper. The second paper which will replace the current optional subject paper will test candidate in the ares of aptitude, Data Interpretation and Comprehension skills. Main Examination There are nine papers. Scheme of the examination: Paper-I & II: Two Language papers (One in Indian Language and one in General English, each carries 300 Marks) Paper-III: Essay (200 Marks) Papers IV & V: General Studies (2 papers ,each carries 300 Marks) Papers VI, VII, VIII & IX: Two optional subjects (each having 2 papers and 300 marks for each paper) |

You can apply for the IAS exam after completing B.Tech. The minimum eligibility criterion for the IAS exam is a graduation in any discipline from a recognized institute. You should clear the preliminary exam first to attend the Main exam. The prelims will generally include multiple choice questions. If you qualify in the first stage, then only you can attend the Main exam. The questions will be asked from the areas such as General studies and Optional Subjects etc.
