Sure there is good scope in the field of Chemical Engineering especially when done by reputed institutes like NIT. Most of the opportunities will be in manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies. They are also required in the defense sector and atomic centers. They also have the option to enter in to the research field. The level of difficulty of the course depends on the candidates. It depends on the level of interest and also the effort put in to prepare for the course.

Hello.....NIT is a big name so any course done from there gets the double value than from a normal engineering college.
There are quiet a lot of job opportunities after doing chemical engineering in Steel plant,HPCL,NTPC and in other industrial areas.
But if you are thinking that chemical engineers get those cool offices as shown in the films then you are wrong because it is very rare.Their maximum work is on field.
All the best.

Every job is good in its own aspect. It is important that you be good in whatever career you plan to pursue. There are lots of opportunities in the field of chemical engineering. It depends which area you are interested in. If you are interested in the teaching field then you could go for an M.Tech and then appear for the NET exam. If you are interested in research then there is a Junior Research Associates test conducted by UGC. If these do not interest then you can go for either a Government or a Private job. There are lots of opportunities in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing area. Your basic interest should help in selection.

Chemical Engineering is that branch of engineering which is involved in the design and maintenance of chemical plants and the development of chemical processes for converting raw materials or chemicals into valuable forms.

Chemical Engineers have demand both in the public sector as well as the private sector.

You can seek jobs in areas such as processing, operations or manufacturing, research and development, design and construction, finance and teaching.

The areas where you can get jobs are:

1.Chemical Plants
2.Petrochemical Plants
3.Pharmaceuticals
4.Petroleum Refining Plants
5.Mineral Based Industries
6.Electronics Industry
7.Photographic Equipment Units
8.Clothing Units
9.Pulp And Paper Manufacturing
10.Aircraft Industry

So don't worry you will get a good job with a good salary.

yes you are eligible for psu exams.

list of psu for chemical:
INDIAN OIL
ONGC
BPCL
HPCL
BARC
NTPC

etc

THROUGH gate only INDIAN OIL is recruiting chemical engineers. and last year's cutoff was 65 rank(AIR).
SO, competition is very tough.

you can go for private job also.

all the best.
