Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
Hi
The eligibility criteria for the gate examination is mentioned below. If you are fulfilling all the conditions for the exam then you are eligible for this exam. The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE : 1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. 2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. 3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/ Technology. 4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible. GOOD LUCK |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
Considering the fact that the GATE notifications so far have simply stated a Bachelor Degree in Engineering (4 years after 10+2) as the criteria, without emphasizing on any minimum marks requirement, your low average % should not debar you from sitting for the GATE. So, do not waste your precious time and go ahead with your preparation so that you may make up for your past failures with a good GATE-score.

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
BAck logs dont matter..you have to complete your degree...and then get you r certificate..to become eligible for the gate exam...you can give your GATE exam as the score card is valid for 2 years ...you will have extra two years to clear all your back logs....But since you have backlogs you need to be fundamentally strong to clear the gate exam...So try hard and study sincerely/...

dear friend,
Any student of B.Tech of 3rd year or above can appear in GATE exam, but at the time of admission in M.Tech discipline he/she should not have any backlog in any paper. & marks 60% in B.Tech is not required for GATE. Any B.Tech graduate student can take admission in M.Tech in various college as per his/her GATE score. But only condition is that no any backlog in B.Tech at the time of admission in M.Tech. All backlogs must be clear. You need not to be panic, you are eligible for GATE. good luck. |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
hi friend,
If your question is only limited to the write GATE exam then i would say yes, and if to get admission after clearing this then i would say no.......... It is much obvious that you cannot get admission in mtech before clearing your btech. But you can give this gate exam with whatever percentage or backlogs you have. These are not checked at the time of the test and again it is not even mentioned in the GATE brochure. So take GATE exam freely since it is valid for two years you can get admission on the basis of this next year, and till then you can not only improve your percentage but also can clear your backlog. |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
Dear Friend
To take admission in M.Tech, the only criteria is pass in BTech or B.E..There is no any marks criteria.A student of BTech or B.E. may appear in GATE exam for the admission in MTech in third year as well as in 4th year. But there is one condition is that while taking admission in MTech, there must not be any back log. So do not be disappointed , labour hard and prepare for gate exam. Best of luck |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
hi friend,
As per GATE brouchure, you are eligible to take examination in all respects because no percentage criterian has been specified to take GATE exam in it. And the left question is of backlog, then all institute would take you in their MTech only if you have completed your btech at the time of counselling , so if you estimate that you will clear your backlog at the time of attending counselling then you may fill gate form. Another thing is that , taking any exam is not a sign of clearing that exam. So work hard. |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
don't worry obviously you are eligible to appear in GATE. presently the GATE score is valid for two years. so you will get to take admission in master degree or other program using your score card in consecutive two years. so you have to clear all the backlog paper to take admission. as you have two years time surely you can clear your backlog. below 60% candidate are also eligible for get. don't worry about this. give attention to the study and make a good percentile in GATE. best of luck.

HI!
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE : Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. There is no cut off percentage in GATE. You just need to have a BTech degree from a recognised university. Regarding backlogs as far as I know you must clear all your backlogs before the completion of your BTech degree. |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
Less percentage will not matter since there's no eligibility criteria mentioned about the mark's scored but you should not have any back logs.
Better pass out your backlogs before the course completes and keep working hard for the GATE exam.Be strong in your basics and core subjects. all the best |

Its really very good and impressive if you get more than 80% in your BE. The backlogs that has been cleared are not going to stop you from progressing. More than 90% companies put only a criteria of 60-70% in BE and don't stop students who have backlogs cleared. Backlogs in engineering is very common. And that is true for all sort of colleges. Don't worry for your campus placement. You will be allowed to appear most of the companies. Just improve your technical skills and communication skill too for being in safer zone for placements. Thank You |

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
Dear friend you just need b.tech degree for sitting in GATE exam.there are no any criteria regarding marks in b.tech. marks criteria are set by the individual institution which conducts their own exam. so, don't worry just clear your backlogs and apply for GATE .good luck.

Dear friend there are no any boundary condition set by GATE regarding marks in b.tech .according to GATE elligibility criteria only b.tech degree is enough for applying. the marks criteria are generally created by some colleges which conduct their own exam for entry into m.tech . these requires atleast 60% in class 12th and b.tech. don't worry and clear your backlogs before applying for GATE.good luck.

Re: GATE eligibility with backlogs and less than 60% in Engineering
if you have backlog then also you are eligible to appear in GATE examination. but when you will take admission through GATE score then you must clear your graduation without any backlog. GATE score card is valid for two years. so you have two years to clear your backlog. i think you will clear your backlog in this time. below 60% marks is not a problem to appear in GATE. bur there are some institution which give opportunity to take admission for those student who have minimum of 60% marks throughout the career. you will not be eligible for these type of institution if you do not have minimum of 60% marks.
Well, dear it is clearly mentioned in the Eligibility Criteria of GATE, that only the candidates with following dergee can appear for GATE, for persuing M.Tech. 1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. 2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes. 3. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible. (As per Information Brochure pg-2) best of luck for your examination. |
