Dear Friend,

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones such that One Indian Institute of Science(IISc),Bangalore and the Seven IITs(Bombay,Kharagpur,Kanpur,Guahati,Roorkee,Madra s,Delhi)

According to the Eligibility of the GATE:

1:You should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology or Architecture or Pharmacy of 4 years after 10+2.

2:You can also apply if you are in the final or pre-final year examination of the Master Degree.

or
3:You have to be a Master degree holders in any branch of Science like Physics,Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications etc....

4:You can also apply if you are in the final or pre-final year examination of the Master Degree.

However,Exam Pattern of the GATE:

Each paper contains 65 questions carrying 100 marks

1:Q.1 to Q.25: Will carry one mark each
Total: 25 marks
Negative Mark:1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

2:Q.26 to Q.55: Will carry two marks each
Total :60 marks
Negative Mark:2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

3:Q.48 through Q.51 (2 pairs): will have common data questions. Each question will carry two marks
Total:8 marks
Negative Mark:2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

4:Question pairs (Q.52, Q.53) and (Q.54, Q.55) will be linked answer questions.

If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is unattempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated. Each question will carry two marks

Total:8 marks
Negative Mark:There will be negative marks only for wrong answer to the first question of the linked answer question pair i.e. for Q.52 and Q.54, 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
There is no negative marking for Q.53 and Q.55.

5:Q.56 to Q.60:will be from General Aptitude (GA) will carry one mark each
Total :5 marks.
Negative Mark:1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

6:Q.61 to Q.65 will be from GA will carry two marks each
Total: 10 marks
Negative Mark:2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Some Important Tips:

1:According to me,maintain a time table to allow yourself to devote minimum6-8hrs per day for the GATE.

2:Then try to collect the base or main material of any subject.

3:.Study the Syllabus

4:Try to solve the Previous questions papers

5:Try to Solve more and more problems,

6:Try to discover more and more new own tricks by which you can easily solve any problem in a less time .

7:You can go for self tests.

You have to prepare from the books that are strictly for GATE, you can find these from your nearest book stores or else you can find them online. There are many online websites which offers you GATE papers, syllabus and materials that you need. You can find so many online GATE mock test websites where you can estimate your strength, ability, etc.

GATE Exam Pattern : The GATE exam consists of 60 questions of 100 marks. The total time allotted is 3hrs. All the questions are are multiple choice questions i.e objective types. The candidate has to mark the correct choice on a OMR sheet. Various papers are available. A candidate has to select any one out of the following subjects. The subjects with their code are given below -

AE – Aerospace Engineering
AR – Architecture & Planning
CH – Chemical Engineering
CY – Chemistry
EE – Electrical Engineering
AG – Agricultural Engineering
CE – Civil Engineering
CS – Computer Science & Information Technology
EC – Electronics & Communication Engineering
IN – Instrumentation Engineering
ME – Mechanical Engineering
MT – Metallurgical Engineering
PI – Production & Industrial Engineering
TF – Textile Engineering & Fiber Science
MA – Mathematics
MN – Mining Engineering
PH – Physics
PY – Pharmaceutical Sciences
GG – Geology & Geophysics. This subject contains 2 parts. Part A will be common to both Geology & Geophysics candidates. Part B contains 2 sections. Section I is for Geology candidates & Section II is for Geophysics Candidates.
In all this subjects, question 1 – 20 carries 1 mark each & for every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.
Questions 21-50 carries 2 marks each & 2/3 marks will be deducted for each incorrect attempt.
Questions 51 –56 are common data question & carries 2 marks each.
Questions 57 & 58, 59 & 60 are linked questions & carries 2 marks each. There is 2/3 marks deduction for wrong attempt for only question no. 57 & 59. Rest two don’t have any negative marking

you should by the gate book of gk publishers ,it has all the model papers and solutions also previous years papers

It is well and good if you buy a nice study material for GATE from the market.
I do not recommend on-line material for GATE preparation. So please think about the suggestion and work accordingly.

1) Last Date for submitting GATE 2011 Application Form:-
Online (October 27, 2010)
Offline (November 02, 2010)

2) Date of Gate 2011 Exam:- February 13, 2011

Dear friend
For GATE examination you can choose only that subject which you have studied during your graduation.
So you do not have any option other than choosing ECE branch for your GATE examination.
Therefore there is no question of easy and tough subject. Prepare well for ECE itself. As you have already studied it in Btech it would not be tough for you.

the question pattern or the gate examination is same as it was before in the year 2010.

and this year means the gate exam 2011 is conducted on the 13 february.and this is the

first time in which the exam is conducted in the two shifts,for the some disipline it will

be in the 1st shift and for the some other it will be in the 2nd shift.you can check the

syllabus and question pattern in the gate prospectus.

As you a student of 3rd year i would like to suggest you that you can join any coaching classes for preparation of GATE, but for GATE 2011 it is not possible, you have to do self study & follow the pattern of GATE by solving previous year papers.

But for GATE 2012, you have enough time to prepare for GATE.

And after doing M.Tech you can build your career in research field.

"before appearing in gate you should clear about your vision if you are technically well sound and interested in technical field you can choose gate as your target..to prepare for gate you should just prepare your subject in detail of gate syllabus..for that you shoud refer standard book of that particular subject and make all the concept clear..gate is basically divided in three part technical relelated to your subject & numerical aptitude & english. to prepare you have to increase your vocabulary power for that you should read english news paper daily & numerical is based on logic you can answer it by your thinking and logical power but it requires proper practice...
as you say you are in 3rd year so you just focus on your current sem & with that cover atleast your 4 old subject...& before 2 months of gate exam you can prepare for MCQ and old gate paper..... to get gate material you can ask your teacheror your seniour or you can use net....

sir ,you asked about the marks in gate exam but you didn't mentioned the marks ,but if you secured good marks in your gate exam so that you can get a seat in a good college for m.tech .
in the interviews some of them will ask about your achievements in your career so that for that you can mention the your gate marks .
they will be useful for getting an impression in before an interviewer so you had an chance to get an job.
